In The Zone

Don't forget to tune in to the Northern Alliance Radio Network tomorrow from noon until 3pm CDT. At 1pm we're going to be joined by Steven Vincent, author of In The Red Zone: A Journey Into The Soul of Iraq.

In The Red Zone is a fascinating look at Iraqi society and ordinary Iraqis. Vincent is a talented writer, who left the hotels of Baghdad behind to try to find out what is really going on in the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. He has produced an entertaining and thought provoking read, which I highly recommend.

Spirit Of America

Leading bloggers are competing to raise funds to benefit the people of Iraq. 100% of all donations go to needs selected by these bloggers. Many of our projects support requests made by Americans serving in Iraq (Marines, Army, SeaBees) for goods that help the Iraqi people. Other projects directly support Iraqis who are on the front lines of building a better future for Iraq.

You can donate to this very worthy cause via the Northern Alliance team here. Give early, give often.

In The Red Zone

UPDATE II: Due to a death in the family, Steven Vincent will not be able to appear this Saturday. He has been rescheduled for Saturday November 27th at 1:00pm, which gives you plenty of time to order
In The Red Zone
. I'm almost finished with it and it is truly a fascinating read.

We will be having Richard Miniter, author of Shadow War: The Untold Story of How Bush Is Winning the War on Terror on this Saturday from 1pm-1:30pm as a sub.

And Michael J. Neslon is still going to be joining us in the third hour.

POSTED PREVIOUSLY

We are pleased to annouce that Steven Vincent, author of In The Red Zone, will be appearing on this Saturday's (November 20th) show in the second hour (1pm CDT).

In the Red Zone, an American journalist's account of his daring solo expeditions through post-Saddam Iraq, is a vivid, frank, and unforgettable portrayal of the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. An eyewitness of the 9/11 attacks, Steven Vincent went to Iraq to experience the daily realities of life and death in the crossfire of the war on terror. His report is essential for understanding America's enemies and allies in the critical but confusing struggle against radical Islam.

Steven Vincent journeyed twice to Iraq, paying his own way, traveling without security or official connections, living by his wits. His four months in the war zone included a foray into the infamous Mosque of Ali in Najaf, a confrontation with Ayatollah Sistani's bodyguards, a brush with death in a Karbala bombing, meetings with assorted Western "peace activists," and run-ins with Iraqi "authorities" who alternately suspected him of being a CIA agent and a terrorist.

You can pick up your copy of the book online from
Spence Publishing
at a special discounted price.

UPDATE: Michael J Nelson will also be joining us for Saturday's show. He'll be stopping by in the third hour to discuss the budding controversy over the proposed leaf blower ban in Minneaapolis and his plan to make lions wear underpants.

Toast To The Troops

Join the Northern Alliance at Keegan's Irish Pub on Saturday November 13th as we salute our nation's veterans. Anyone who has served or is currently serving in the military will get a free drink courtesy of publican Terry Keegan (similar to getting blood from a turnip). We'll also be raising money for Soldiers' Angels, which does a great job supporting the troops.

Turn Down The Sound On Your TV...

...and tune in AM1280 The Patriot for complete election night coverage. The NARN will be doing live local updates during all breaks in Hugh Hewitt's late night show. The plan is to be on from 8pm until 3am, unless there is a concession before then.

MITCH ADDS: Elder's right. Forget the TV, we'll have the good stuff. Captain Ed, King Banaian, Patrick Campion and I will have the news from the studio, with the rest of the NARN roving about the Metro and State getting the details. We'll be on, as Elder says, during breaks in the national coverage - about 16 minutes per hour. We'll also be talking with bloggers from around the state, and the surrounding states (WI, IA and SD) for insights on neighboring state races, as well as heavy hitters in both parties.

Stay tuned. It's going to be a great night - and a whole lot less depressing than listening to the mainstream media's coverage.
